Why I love my troupe

It just kind of hit me, after reading an email being sent out about how much we earned for CNY and getting business card printed... etc.

This will be our 5th year lion dancing.

The troupe started out as just "something to try for fun" between a couple of friends evolved into something that is permanent and growing. It just blows my mind how we are still around after 5 years. We started out with absolutely nothing (okay, almost nothing... we did inherit an old drum and random small cymbal and gong from Chinese School). We practiced with steel chairs, trashcans for half a year because we couldn't afford a lion head. We painted our own shirts for our first performance because we couldn't afford any. We practiced without sash because we didn't know any better. With the help of other kind lion dancers, we kind of felt our way around this exciting new world and grew.

I am very proud to be a part of this group of people that have enough passion to stick it out. There were trying times, but it seems like we had been doing a decent job riding those waves out and grow. Hopefully in the future my kids will be dancing for East Rising as well! (which may be in another umm... 40 years? =) )
